TANY Makes an Impact

Trucking Association of New York

Sustainability Efforts

At the Trucking Association of New York, we believe sustainability is about more than what happens on the road. It starts with the choices we make every day and extends to the policies, programs and partnerships we support across New York’s transportation industry.

Leading by Example

We’re taking practical steps to reduce waste, conserve resources and make more sustainable choices in our offices and at our events.

  • Reducing single-use products: We use reusable water bottles and mugs and have replaced single-use plates, bowls and utensils.
  • Reducing waste: We recycle bottles, reuse unwanted paper for notes, and reuse boxes and packing materials whenever possible.
  • Choosing greener products: We prioritize paperless communication for as many projects as possible within our daily operations and we purchase recycled paper for those times when we must print.  We use an energy-efficient dishwasher for in-office dishes.
  • Saving energy: Our offices use LED lighting with automatic shut-off features.
  • Smarter events: We reuse event signage and name badges, encourage reusable water bottles and reduce printed materials by providing information digitally through event websites.

Making an Impact Beyond Our Offices

TANY is also working to make sustainability a priority across our programs, events and facilities.

Fill it Forward

Through our partnership with Fill it Forward, TANY encourages the use of reusable water bottles while helping support clean-water initiatives.

Building-Wide Recycling

TANY successfully worked with our building management to establish a single-stream recycling program throughout the building, making recycling more accessible for everyone.

Sustainable Events

We consider sustainability when selecting venues for TANY programs and events, prioritizing facilities with strong environmental and community initiatives. We also prioritize sustainable giveaways, reuse event materials and continue moving printed event materials online.

Clean Trucks New York

TANY co-hosts Clean Trucks New York, New York’s only statewide event dedicated to sustainable trucking education. The program brings together trucking industry leaders, policymakers, technology providers and transportation stakeholders to explore emerging technologies, alternative fuels and practical strategies for reducing emissions.

Advancing Sustainable Transportation Through Policy

TANY also works with policymakers, agencies and industry partners to advance practical environmental solutions that support New York’s transportation goals while recognizing the operational realities facing trucking businesses.

Supporting a Clean Fuel Standard

TANY supports a Clean Fuel Standard (CFS) that would incentivize the use of alternative fuels, including renewable diesel, to achieve immediate greenhouse gas emissions reductions while generating revenue to support environmental initiatives, including medium- and heavy-duty vehicle charging infrastructure.

Renewable diesel is a drop-in fuel that can be used in existing vehicles without additional equipment or infrastructure investment and can provide significant emissions reductions.

Expanding the Truck Voucher Incentive Program

TANY worked with NYSERDA to expand the Truck Voucher Incentive Program (TVIP), helping eliminate the scrappage requirement, expand funding eligibility to Class 3 vehicles and include off-road equipment.

The changes helped make the program accessible to more businesses and equipment users. Following these changes, NYSERDA's Class 3-7 funding was fully subscribed in less than three months.

Working Toward a Dollars for Diesel Program

TANY is working toward a Dollars for Diesel voucher program designed to accelerate the replacement of older diesel trucks in New York.

Research indicates that removing pre-2010 model-year trucks from the road can deliver significant emissions reductions. A diesel-to-diesel replacement program would help fleets replace older equipment with newer, cleaner trucks while providing a practical pathway toward lower emissions.

Partnership with NY Utilities

TANY has forged great partnerships with New York’s main utility providers and has supported their proactive planning proposals as well as other petition requests with the Public Service Commission.

Community Involvement

TANY VP of Government Affairs Zach Miller serves on the Board of the Empire Clean Cities Coalition. We have several members proudly serving as Board members, sponsors, and advisors to their local Clean Cities Coalitions as well.

Micro Mobility

From overnight deliveries, cargo bikes, quads, and waterways TANY supports various initiatives to reduce truck vehicles miles traveled and add efficiency to New York City’s freight distribution network.

Sustainability Takes All of Us

From the choices we make in our offices to the policies we advocate for in Albany, TANY is committed to supporting practical, achievable solutions that move New York’s transportation industry toward a cleaner future.
