Call on Washington, D.C.

Each year the Trucking Association of New York (TANY) coordinates a trip to Washington D.C. with the American Trucking Associations (ATA). The event provides an opportunity for TANY members to meet with New York State’s congressional delegation in order to discuss priority issues at both the state and national level.

Prior to the meetings, ATA staff provide updates on key legislative and regulatory issues for the attendees. Meeting logistics are covered and ATA lobbyists are assigned to help facilitate meetings and assist in answering questions.

2020 issues discussed were:

  • Driver Shortage: DRIVE Safe Act

  • Infrastructure Investment

  • New York Trusted Traveler Restrictions

  • Employer Liability Protections

While the COVID-19 pandemic prevented TANY from flying to Washington D.C. and walking the halls of Congress, it did not hamper the association from holding this important event. TANY was the first state trucking association to conduct their Call on Washington, D.C. program as a virtual event. TANY worked closely with ATA to schedule video meetings with key congressional offices over the course of two days.
